About us

The District Council of Kimba sits proudly in the northeast of South Australia's Eyre Peninsula. Perfectly positioned on the Eyre Highway, part of National Highway One, Kimba lies 475 km from Adelaide, 155 km from Port Augusta, and 315 km from Ceduna. It’s also close to neighboring towns: Cleve (75 km), Kyancutta (90 km), and Whyalla (120 km).

Kimba’s roots go back to 1876 when it first opened for agriculture, and by 1915, the township was officially proclaimed. Today, Kimba is at the heart of the District Council’s 3,500 square kilometre area. Although the population has slowly declined over the years, around 1,211 people still call this district home, with about 650 residents in the town itself.
